There's also the MMO Warhammer Online which closed a few years ago, but since then the private server Return of Reckoning has been made by fans and they've done a really great job on it and have even had at least one dev come to the forums and approve of the great work they are doing. There's going to be another update in the Summer that adds magic too. Won't learn much about the lore from it though. It's better than most games that come out these days so really really worth playing. It's getting an update sometime this month adding Vampire Counts and Beastmen as well as a lot of other content and updates to an already HUGE and well done mod.

I also recommend the Mount & Blade mod Warsword Conquest. I'm only on the first book of the Nagash trilogy, but the second one's description talks about Nagash fighting vampires, and the third about him fighting Skaven, which is refrenced in the Black Plague book. Really really loved all 3 of those books, and especially the Necromancer's story.Īfter loving that Necromancer story so much I decided to learn more about the origins of Necromancy and the Undead and so I've been reading through the ToL Nagash origins books. I just recently finished the ToL Black Plague trilogy about the early Skaven clans launching an attack against the Human Empire using plague and manipulation, and also covers the corruption of Sylvania and rise of a very powerful Necromancer. Really loved the second book in that trilogy that follows Alith Anar the most called Shadow King. I started with the ToL Sundering books about the start of the High Elf Dark Elf civil war. It's the origins and early stories of some factions and heroes. I've only been reading through the books since last year, but the Time of Legends books would be a great place to start and is where I started.
